Leaning on the lamppost, just jangling the keys to the kingdom

Rabbit, rabbit! I would have appreciated the symbolism of the new year more without the no-mask jackass who literally crossed our path as we were coming up to our front door in the evening and then hung out on the steps of the other side of the duplex as we let ourselves in, but the earlier part of the day much more congenially involved eating waffles and facilitating further Zoom time between my godchild and my niece, who did succeed in staying up through midnight. She banged pots and pans with my mother and [personal profile] spatch. I blew the conch. I fell asleep well before sunrise and slept nearly ten hours. That would be an acceptable forecast of the year as far as I'm concerned.

[personal profile] selkie has revealed herself as the author of "The Fire and the Place in the Forest," which is indeed recursive because for Hanukkah of 2018 I wrote "Where the Sky Is Silver and the Earth Is Brass" for her. I do not recognize the AO3 handle of the author of "The Cloud Mirror" and that is an entirely different kind of really neat. If you have not already, please read [personal profile] skygiants' "un mir zenen ale shvester" for the full Yiddish Yuletide experiece.

It is a sign of the postal times that it took two tries since October for my CDs of Torchwood: The Last Beacon (2018) and Torchwood: The Hope (2019) to arrive, but they finally did, which was a nice touch for the end of the year.

I am also very pleased about appearing on the Quick Sip Reviews 2020 Recommended Reading List. [edit] And A.C. Wise's Favorite Short Fiction of 2020!

I hope your new year was quiet, cathartic, or unremarkable as you preferred.

That sounds like an excellent new year! (Mine was good until sometime after midnight when my digestion decided to go on strike.)

*beams at you*

There is a specific kind of delight in trading stories with a friend.

There is! And the original work is beyond adorable in addition to being just a good story to work from.

In the spirit of your comment, I have gone completely bonkers and will soon be trading them an entire book, currently 148 single spaced completely senseless draft pages and two scribbly composition books that I have to hide from my kid; longer than my entire body of work combined including the extremely shitty undergrad thesis novel.

I can say recursive! That word I know! Well. I know for looped around, and we didn't have Latin roots in the Alte Medine. Petelyekh. Gepeteylt, I think, for having made a loop.

It is entirely convenient to my purposes to have a reference by firelight.

Now let us creep quietly into 2021 with nothing in our hands and no looks on our faces.

This I looked up the other day; prewar it was from French, av'yon, which you used to do avyatsye. So... okay we do steal things from Latin, sha.
