Once I had a color as red as a rose

My poem "The Bargain" has been accepted by Not One of Us; it features pomegranates and I wrote it last night out of a difficult day. Today has not been of the greatest, either, but at least [personal profile] spatch and I got out for a walk and I took photos before the light ran out.

The motive force of rhetoric aside, wearing a mask in a pandemic isn't heroic, it's the damn minimum of humanity, but that hasn't stopped some of us from looking like statues about it.

This house, on the other hand, looked distressingly like a metaphor.

Eastward over the train tracks from the Walnut Street Bridge.

A very bewildered tree on Gilman Street.

The McGrath Highway Bridge was built in 1926 and refurbished in 1983 and it feels like cheating to take pictures of it because it doesn't have a bad angle.

Sheeler and Strand, eat your hearts out.

I do not tire of steel riveted against the sky.

Nor of the people who explore them with me.

The last bands of sunset.

Frames of a train.

I loved how the sky curled over the street.

I didn't mark when Sarma acquired its cephalopod, but I approve.

This time last year was a blizzard and a medical emergency, but I really believe this time this year is even more stressful, and it should not be the case.

*I do it, because other people.*

This. I'm quite happy to take the damn things off once I'm away from shops and the crush of people (I hate my glasses steaming up) but while I'm in there... A month or two back, I was queueing in my local shop and two lads came in. They weren't just maskless, they were *vaping* inside. I'm a smoker myself, but I try to be respectful to other folks' lungs. I dropped a few f-bombs when they'd left.

Excellent - another Midlander! :D I'm at the ruralish edge of a largeish town in the West Midlands. If I need to do more extensive shopping I need to walk into the town centre. That's unpleasant at this time of year, even more so now.

Maid of Kent by birth married to a Scot- we moved up here after retiring four years back- this was our escape pod for many years. We loved the Wrekin and the Severn Gorge region and now we live literally right under the Wrekin and Ercall hills.

Telford is our nearest big shopping place which is why we tend to go to Shrewsbury, which is saner and much more real.

Which large-ish town if you don't mind my asking?

Solihull - for which I feel like I have to apologise! :) I like my little green corner, but the rest and its Torydom, not so much.
