What you desire, respire, explain and TBD

Because time has gone so weird that I have not acclimated to the month yet, I opened the package that arrived this afternoon from [personal profile] yhlee and it was a birthday gift of shells: heart cockle and abalone, sundial and spindle shells, scallop, limpet, cat's eye, silver conch, lynx and money and purple-top cowries and more. He said he would have sent me the sea if he could, but he thought it might be hard to fit into our apartment. It's almost certainly true. We don't even have room for all our books.

In response to my prompt in the Comfort Fest, [personal profile] sholio wrote me a beautiful coda for a scene in the fourth season of Turn: Washington's Spies (2014–17), between the characters of Abigail and Edmund Hewlett: "Acts of Kindness." I basically consider it canonical. I need to figure out how to write about TV shows without generating monographs.

[personal profile] spatch is calling this my New York Dolls phase.

What a gorgeous-sounding collection of shells! Each one telling a slightly different tale of the sea, Rashomon-style.

You look beautiful, though my cultural ignorance means I don't know the significance of New York dolls (but that's what Google is for, never fear!)

Child just worried you were going out. "You know, OUT?!!" I assured them you would not, per se, go on a coffee date during a flaming pandemic.

I’m just not used to having a child who, via Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters’ Club, groks adults going out. I don’t think their parents have been to a club racier or thumpier than the Birchmere (where one partakes of folk music and cider and gets fleeced on parking) since they were ~four.
Tangentially, they mostly like people who identify as girls but anything besides watching Disney+ or MAYBE like making cookies or smoothies = a dumb waste of time. Thank God.

I loved the story that you wrote for me, and I would be thrilled to read more like it. ♥

That's a lovely picture!

I don't know if you've seen this? It is an attempt at Beowulf translated into Yiddish-inflected English.

...this is the picture that makes me suddenly and sharply realize that when I picture October Daye (from the Seanan McGuire books) I am picturing you as her. Physically, not personality-wise, but still a weird realization.
