We're dancing on this stage all alone
Readercon 31 has been postponed until July 2021 because of COVID-19.
Nobody is happy about this decision, except that any other decision was irresponsible. I hope to see all of you whom I would ordinarily have seen this summer a summer from now, and healthy.

It's one of my very few annual professional commitments; it's certainly the longest-standing, since 2004. It's what I organize my July around. It's going to be weird.
I am sorry you have to wait, but since "and healthy" is the whole purpose, may it be so all around.
Thank you.

My annual professional commitments are Minicon, already cancelled, and Fourth Street, which I assume will follow, though they can wait for the next governor's decree when this lockdown ends on May 4. I have come so adrift from time that the loss of Minicon didn't register, especially since they rescheduled it with the same guests for next year. If that doesn't happen either, well, it's way too soon to borrow trouble.
Fourth Street is where Beth Meacham and I exchange the necklace of Elise's that we share; it's called Sidhe Passport. But we missed an exchange a year ago, so she gets it for an extra year now, and a good thing too. It can go in the mail, but this makes us nervous.

The gators have eaten this year.

They have. I hope Danny Rand punches all of them.

Ayup.
[edit] I hope you do not mind that I quoted you, anonymously, over on Facebook, because this comment is wise.

It's probably a universal truth, but it's well-stated here, and that's what I wanted to carry over.

I look forward to Readercon 2021.

Same! I was so proud of myself for booking well in advance of my traditional last-minute scramble. This is doing nothing for positive reinforcement.
That feels like eons ago, in so many ways.
Time has been weird since 2016, but this March really pushed it. If I was going to live through a geological epoch, I would have wanted trilobites, or horses with toes, or something.
I look forward to Readercon 2021.
I truly hope to see you there. In your case "healthy" should include "and no vertigo, either."

May we all regather next year, safe and well.

It's better than the alternative, but that doesn't mean it's fun to miss them.

Looking forward to seeing you face to face in better times.

Good! I'm glad to hear it!
Looking forward to seeing you face to face in better times.
Very, very much so.

I'm sad for the vendors who've lost sales, the writers who've lost opportunities to talk to other writers; the social opportunities.
I think it was 100% the right decision.

Thank you.
