We're dancing on this stage all alone

Readercon 31 has been postponed until July 2021 because of COVID-19.

Nobody is happy about this decision, except that any other decision was irresponsible. I hope to see all of you whom I would ordinarily have seen this summer a summer from now, and healthy.

Oh, gosh, I don't know why that is somehow more sobering than so many other pieces of news, but it brought me up short. I am sorry you have to wait, but since "and healthy" is the whole purpose, may it be so all around.

I'm sorry, Sonya--I wouldn't have been there this year anyway because of a conflicting commitment (which has gone to distance learning), but still. *Support support*

The gators have eaten this year.

Sometimes the right thing to do still sucks.

I was amazed to discover that I only made my hotel reservation for Readercon at the end of February. That feels like eons ago, in so many ways.

I look forward to Readercon 2021.

I could see this coming, glacially. I grieve: I've never missed a Readercon in 30 years, and it's a year-hinge for me, and a well spring. And of course I'm relieved: I would rather miss my brilliant friends this year than forever.

May we all regather next year, safe and well.

*hugs*

**I'm** happy about this decision--not about missing Readercon for a year, but about the good sense it shows, and how it saves me from having to make a tough decision (I hadn't reserved a hotel room yet)

Looking forward to seeing you face to face in better times.

I'm happy for the lives saved.

I'm sad for the vendors who've lost sales, the writers who've lost opportunities to talk to other writers; the social opportunities.

I think it was 100% the right decision.
