Due to glancing childhood exposure to 1960's TV Batman and of course her name, I always took it for granted that Eartha Kitt was a were-cat, but this 1952 photo by Carl Van Vechten makes a really good case for mermaid:



Other things I learned about today from Tumblr include the Sword of Stalingrad (pictured with its silversmith Leslie Durbin, then of the RAF) and Jason deCaires Taylor's The Lost Correspondent (2006). I was also very struck by this shipwreck turning into an island. It appears to be the SS City of Adelaide.

Eartha Kitt was an amazing woman, and I loved her singing.

She sang wonderfully. (I just see no reason she could not have been a were-cat and had a singing career.)
