לאָמיר ניקאָלײַקעלען צעברעכן די װענט
I didn't fall asleep until after dawn. Then I had a lot of nightmares. Then I didn't wake up until the early afternoon. I just feel mentally wiped. I am trying to figure out what I can possibly do with the rest of the day that won't feel like even more wasted time.
My internal soundtrack since last night appears to be composed entirely of "Hey, Hey, Daloy Politsey." Yesterday's busker was the trigger; when I thanked them for the "Arbetslozer Marsh," they explained that they would also have been singing "Daloy Politsey" except they didn't know enough of the Yiddish and they didn't think they could do it in English without being hauled off by the authorities. I said that was the best reason to learn the Yiddish, so the authorities would think it was just a rousing folk song. What with ICE—and the police—and the president—I'm thinking ABV should be singing it. It's anarchist, sure, but it's not irrelevant. Especially that line about breaking down the tsar's walls.
This week was definitely not as relaxed as I had probably unrealistic fantasies of it being.

Thank you. I am trying to have a quiet day and not beat myself up for it.

My great-grandparents, too. One of my great-grandfathers was conscripted into the Tsar's army, out of which he got by emigrating to America.

(I am sorry about the nightmares.)

LOOK AT ME NOT BEING SURPRISED.
and it was a glorious experience, I hope we do get to sing it again in ABV!
I have suggested it to Linda. I have no idea if it will produce results, but I have at least registered a preference. [edit] She said it's been part of ABV's repertoire in the past—not for some time now, but she would be happy to revive it! I expressed strong enthusiasm for this plan.
(Thank you.)

Thank you for introducing me to Hey, Hey, Daloy Politsey, and to that busker's work.

They just seemed profoundly unnecessary.
Thank you for introducing me to Hey, Hey, Daloy Politsey, and to that busker's work.
You're welcome! I'm really hoping they return to Davis Square. I should have told them that if they come back with the Yiddish for "Daloy Politsey," I'll sing it with them. (I would.)

(I mean, the busker sounds awesome. I'm sorry that everything else is suck.)
(I wonder if we could convince the busker to do a rock remix of "Dire-gelt"?)

(I don't mind asking if I see them again. I feel it, too, is not irrelevant these days.)
