I am on Cape Cod.



Specifically I am on Corporation Beach. I picked up a slipper shell and three pebbles, two white quartz, one soft grey with a water-white line through it. Later we walked through a salt marsh as the sun was setting; I saw a family catching green crabs on the end of a line baited with chicken. There have been excellent fried clams and excellent soft-serve ice cream. Everything smells like salt here. There is excellent sea.

Convenient lyrics aside, mermaids are capricious and their teeth are sharp.

Well, I'm not looking for an undertaker, either.

And all the ones up the Cape are bored and old, though you of all people might find one who remembers the night the Sparrowhawk went down.
