You are the reason my heart broke behind my back
It is no longer a hundred and three degrees Fahrenheit in Somerville. It is ninety-four degrees. That's all right; it's supposed to feel like a hundred and two. We're waiting to run our errands after dark. I did not sleep last night.
Having covered the essentials, I would like to write more of a review of Sense and Sensibility (1995), but it may require sleeping, which may require being in a different climate.
On the other hand, I just learned that the very first duel fought by Alexandre Dumas of Musketeers fame was a glorious display of incompetence on the part of all involved, including Dumas practicing with the wrong weapon, his opponent sleeping through the appointed time, and the rescheduled duel being first delayed by Dumas' pants falling down and then almost immediately concluded when his opponent tripped and fell on his ass. The article from which I got this information offers no suggestion that this farce was achieved in anything but a state of sobriety. Even if Dumas embroidered a little, I'm pretty charmed.

We have an air conditioner and several fans, but it is still unreasonable. Houses in New England were not built for self-cooling.

It was what the Weather Channel said earlier this afternoon, and our apartment has been awful enough that we believed it. If it was only 98°, that's less numerically horrifying but still not all right.
(This apartment, for all its flaws, is newer than many in Somerville, and the living room at least can be cooled properly.)
I'm glad to hear it.

Even if it only got to 98°, I would much rather have had 80° weather. It's just hot.

That duel sounds hilarious!

We are in the wrong latitudes for this to be anything like okay.
That duel sounds hilarious!
It's like a spoof of The Three Musketeers before Dumas had even written them. The entire thing just cheered me up.

That said, we have extremely good central air and if you ever want to come nap on our couch or work in our dining room, you are welcome.

Thank you. That is very kind and I/we may in fact take you up on the offer.
I am so sorry this is the weather you returned to!

That Dumas story is great.

Thank you. Last week it felt like autumn and we put the quilt back on the bed. This week having skin feels like an existential mistake.
That Dumas story is great.
It's so anti-swashbuckling.

Do you want to borrow an extra AC? Because seriously, I have one...

Thank you. We will consider your offer. Why do you not need it?

Cause my new bedroom came with one.

Sympathies over your weather. It's horrendously hot here today and yesterday as well, and I also couldn't sleep, though I don't normally have any sort of insomnia. I keep telling myself that it's almost September and surely it should cool off soon, but the extended weather forecast doesn't actually look very promising, alas.

It's so stupid and no one dies. That is the best kind of incompetent duel.

It felt like autumn just last week!
