It is grey outside and steadily raining as it has been for many days this summer, but at least it's cooler than the last few monsoons. rushthatspeaks arrives shortly and we will head to Providence for this evening's launch party. I have no idea how many people I can expect to see there and I'm looking forward to all of them.

I know there are white nationalists and neo-Nazis and all manner of the alt-right organizing in D.C. this weekend. I hope the counter-protesters stay safe. I hope they outnumber the alt-right by the thousands. I hope the police, if they have to, come down on the right side.

I'm going to read some queer Jewish fiction and remind myself that existing in this climate is not armchair activism. And I take joy in being alive, with a book.

I meant in the italicized sense, because I was thinking of tonight's reading WHICH BY THE WAY WENT GREAT, but is true that I read the queer Jewish fiction you write and it is a thing to hold on to in these times, so let's go with both senses of the verb. They're both important.

If it’s any comfort, most of the local right-wingers backed out of their planned demonstration today in Toronto on a pretext of “not bringing Antifa down on” a Bollywood film festival. We showed up anyway, just in case. The Bollywood festival appears to actually have been cancelled months ago, but the City of Toronto is bad at updating its events page.
