All you sailors, all life-savers, all you cruisers, all you fishermen

All right, I am slowly catching up with the twentieth century:

I have a website.

My father laid down the bones of this site around the time of Ghost Signs in 2015, but then my life fell apart so speedily and so awfully that nothing ever came of it. In anticipation of Forget the Sleepless Shores, I restarted it this weekend. I have done basically nothing else for the last two days except enter a lot of HTML and futz with tiny fragments of Drupal and have a migraine. My parents, [personal profile] spatch, and [personal profile] selkie have been very patient.

All slides on the front page are the creation of my father; all photographs except for the deep space one were taken by someone in my family. All text and errors are mine. I may continue to tinker with the site for the next couple of days, but it should now be live.

At the moment I think it looks rather nice.

It looks very smart and elegant - inviting and easy to read.

Any suggestions I might make would be about making it more visible to search engines, but these would involve saying things about yourself, which I realise is an obstacle.

If it is possible to expand the 'read more' buttons so that each one says what you can read more about, your site becomes more usable for non-sighted visitors using a voice browser - but the trade off is that the buttons aren't as neat. There's always a trade off.

There are several sites with your name on them - reviews, your many and various publishers, Wikipedia - and you want your own site to come high up the list. So you give it as much help as you can. (Being more established, getting links to it, these will help too - but content matters, too).

I'm old fashioned, and hand-code, so I can't easily read the code you've used, so I'll say no more than that.

It looks lovely! (and I think you definitely make it into the 21st century! it's hardly at the depth of the geocities ones I remember reading fanfic on with a rather painful fondness)

Do you want spoilers for Rise of the Roundheads: Civil War?

As a historian of the period, I suspect nothing you could tell me would be that spoiler-y after forty odd years of living there! :o)

That said, I do want a decent biography of Brilliana Harley!

I wonder where on earth all the replies to all her letters must have gone. *sigh* What a story someone could make of that. I'm not well up on pre-Restoration history these days, or I'd have a try in fiction.

While the migraine isn't what this weekend wanted, the website will do nicely. It's very solid and, to the point, makes you look like you're a highly reputable, well-blurbed writer of marketable words, all of which has happened to be true for a decade, just under a big mossy rock.

I brought the winch.

Yessssss links to buy books (I lost a bunch of yours in the flood, regrettably) so I know what I'm going to be purchasing the next time I'm allowed to buy books. :)

Lovely site!
