I walked to the post office. I bought cookies from the Lakota Bakery on the way back. I went around the Arlington Res, where the spillway is still overflowing from last week's deluge, and was hissed at by the protective parents of Canada goslings. I absolutely love them. (And they are the only example of a band that I discovered before they became properly famous: in which I take pointless, but entertaining pride.) What album are you listening to?

Heh -- I had a massive girly hard-on for They Might Be Giants in the late 80's. Performance art cred, lemme tell ya. (Wow, I just dated myself!)

I downloaded YES, VIRGINIA, the one you were raving about, I believe.

Yeah. I like words, so lyrics also matter to me: and the Dresden Dolls' are terrific. Right now I think my favorites are "Sex Changes," "My Alcoholic Friends," "Dirty Business," "Shores of California," "Mandy Goes to Med School," and "Sing," but there's always room for change. I might just wind up loving them all.

Eh. With all due respect, love, and worship to the Dresden Dolls, I'm not totally sure about that: I'm not crazy about "Modern Moonlight," "Delilah," or "Me and the Minibar." There are elements about each song that I like (and my unenthusiasm for "Modern Moonlight" may be a function of the album version, as I do not remember disliking the piece when I heard it originally, live, as "www.wwiii"), but for me they pale in comparison with most of the other songs on the album. I listened to "Shores of California" for almost three days straight. That hasn't happened with "Delilah."

6 is not a pretty number. 8 and 3 are definitely better.

I don't have their studio album (Icicle Bicycle) yet, as I only found out yesterday that it's now available, but I love their demo Free Public Consumption. "Simon's Sleeping" is one of my favorites, as are "Genuinely Bad," "Perfect Timing," "Cheap Drunk," "My Mind Is A Box," "Gipsy (The Terrible Sad Side of Hippiedom)," and "Romeo and Juliet (Why'd You Come)." Try a few and see what you think.

The Demo is Wonderful. I laughed at Greenbeans. It reminds me of the Eye House of which I sometimes dream that contains pantries full of these wonderfully enammeled cans of things like "poisonous centipedes in heavy syrup" and peas. Peas show up in those pantries a lot.
