I am going to cook you the best meal you've ever eaten
So there is a famous scene in Sidney J. Furie's The Ipcress File (1965) in which Michael Caine's Harry Palmer impresses Sue Lloyd's attractive fellow counter-espionage agent with a home-cooked omelet prepared and plated as deftly as a fine restaurant; it impressed me, especially when he cracked the eggs one-handed (in a close-up cameo from author Len Deighton) without crumpling fragments of shell everywhere. I've still got this brace on my right hand, so
spatch cooked me an omelet for dinner before he left for work tonight because he had made one for himself last night when he got home and it had looked beautiful and I'd have needed two working hands. With my one working hand, however, I can now crack an egg on the side of a bowl without crumpling fragments of shell everywhere two out of three times (the third time required some fishing) and I am genuinely pretty proud of this fact.

Thank you! I'm not sure I've achieved debonair yet, but then again I don't have Caine's glasses, either.

How long are you stuck with the brace?

I highly recommend the movie. The link goes to a review from 2010 when I saw it for the first time. Someday I will catch it on film in a theater and it will be great.

I was told to wear it for a week and then see if my hand has stopped hurting. It's just a week today. My hand has not stopped hurting. I'm seeing the same doctor again on Wednesday, so I'll check in with her then.

(Well, tasting chocolate. And orgasms. And swimming. Those are all nice. But REALLY.)

I don't care; I think that's great!
Are you familiar with Len Deighton's Action Cookbook?
I've heard of it, but never seen a copy. It's always sounded both really entertaining and culturally important.

The best egg cracking is Lynn Redgrave as the housekeeper in Gods and Monsters, where she tosses off half a dozen of them without looking, while discussing James Whale's sexuality.

Agreed. I have just sadly determined that I can't get it on TCM or Netflix right now.

Thank you! (I'm glad you finally won out over yours.)
