But I like being free and that makes me an idiot, I suppose

I used to have a shower curtain printed with goldfish. Not koi, or tropical reefs, just ordinary goldfish shoaling on an otherwise transparent curtain, and I'd developed a certain fondness for it in the nearly three years it stood between me and the rest of my mildly sketchy bathroom. (My landlords have a habit of destroying bits of my apartment in the guise of having them repaired, so that replacing the fuse box in the hallway somehow wound up knocking a hole through the wall into my bathroom. We will not speak of the paint on the walls.) Alas, in the last week I noticed that not only was the curtain starting to come loose from its rings, a distressing smattering of . . . something . . . had begun its stealthy creep up from the hem. So before it could develop language, I chucked it; and after the appropriate period of mourning, alternately known as the time it takes me to walk to the bookstore and back, I have hung up the new, non-goldfish shower curtain. My entire bathroom now smells like a new car. It could be worse.

In brighter news, the website for Not One of Us has been updated with the tables of contents for the latest issue, #35, and this year's variously-themed collection, Change. (I have enthused about both of these before.) Both are available from Project Pulp. Buy a copy! Keep [livejournal.com profile] lesser_celery in bookshelves! Your own won't regret it.

And I should dust mine, but that's for another night. One act of environmental reclamation at a time . . .

Sometimes, with one of those brushes suitable for scrubbing a tub, one can apply a bit of Softscrub or similar and rid curtains of smatterings before the latter (as you say) develop language. *waves to goldfish*

Our dragonfly showercurtains have started to develop Creeping Something that doesn't scrub off easily, because the water's so hard everything crusts as scales.

And we just bought a dragonfly lampshade for the bedroom, too.

It is -- into a curtain that isn't quite as flexible as it once was.
