For there's many things worth trying for and occasionally worth lying for
It's been a quiet day. My cold has progressed to the stage where I declined invitations to hang out this afternoon and evening because nobody wants to be sneezed on that much. I finally called a doctor about round two of the spruce allergy (it flared up again after Christmas: the tree was removed from the house, but it thoughtfully left needles; I wore gloves and long sleeves for cleaning, but that's allergens for you) and now have a prescription ointment and instructions to take way more Benadryl than I've been doing. I saw my cats briefly. I saw my husband for about the same length of time. A belated holiday gift arrived from my parents, so I've been listening to demos by Kander and Ebb. Kander's right; the first draft of "New York, New York" was terrible.
Andy M. Stewart has died. I found out from the radio: Brian O'Donovan of WGBH's Celtic Sojourn dedicated an entire set to his memory. He read "The Land o' the Leal" for him, then played Stewart's own performance of the song. My mother commented, "How strange to sing your own eulogy."
An article that wanted to be shared: Morgan Parker, "Tokenism May Cause the Following Side Effects." I've seen similar points made by marginalized speculative poets on Twitter and Tumblr. "Literally someone suggested tacos."
Quentin Crisp had really interesting taste in gangster movies.

I was very distressed! I tuned in during the music, so I had no idea why the set of Stewart/Silly Wizard until the DJ started talking at the end.
Thank you for the link. I always associate him with "The Errant Apprentice," simply because it was the first song I heard him sing.

Man oh man, I love that song. I'm sorry to hear Andy Stewart's gone.
