The strength of the vampire is that people will not believe in him
Sadly, last night was terrible and I did not fall asleep until after eight in the morning, with the result that I have no idea if anything I had planned for today will actually happen. In lieu of content this afternoon, please enjoy this pair of adorable publicity stills from Dracula (1931).

It's Dracula's not at all apologetic look in the second photo that really makes this narrative for me. Also, Renfield is quite right to worry about his plotline.

Much as I love Dwight Frye here, my favorite thing is the obsessed look of Mina in the first picture. She looks like she popped in from a slightly different genre--weird horror, where she could be the scholar who reads creepy old books until she starts seeing things that no one else can.
I want to share something almost as lovely. Googling "Bela Lugosi young shirtless" to find a certain picture, I found the one I wanted plus a lot of other nice photos, in this post: http://amidoingthiswriteorwhat.blogspot.com/2015/05/whats-this-young-bearded-and.html Including Lugosi!Jesus shirtless with a crown of thorns, Lugosi wearing nothing but a singlet and a frilly Speedo, and the photo I wanted--shirtless Lugosi with a fencing foil, wearing borderline-kinky black collar and cuffs.
Who knew Lugosi had fantastic gams?
