I am spending the day in Malden with my cats, writing this post from derspatchel's laptop because it seems the local wireless doesn't like Bertie Owen. Hestia is more skittish than the last time I was here and has not yet flopped over for petting, but Autolycus has latched onto my shoulder as usual. They are play-fighting with enough gusto that I am reminded we need to trim their claws. In the meantime, I am making sure no one leaps onto any horizontal surfaces they shouldn't.

I heard about the attacks on Paris last night while at dinner at Sapporo Ramen with rushthatspeaks, gaudior, and B. I am grieved at the violence and I am fearful of the consequences. It was not my city, so I do not know what else I can say. I was there once in 1999; I saw it partly through Tanith Lee. I remember what the roofs looked like by night. I hope the city will be all right and everyone in it, meaning everyone.

I am going to watch my cats watch the world through the window.

I've been to Paris several times over the years and have friends there. (Also, some of my LA friends know the guys in Eagles of Death Metal.) I too hope everyone in Paris will be all right.

Yes. Autolycus made imperative little mrrrs until I stroked the soft fur of his belly, wherever he felt like rolling over on his back to display his cuteness seam. He purred and play-fought with my hand. Hestia walked across my lap while I was typing. It was good.

The guys in the band are all fine. A member of their crew (the guy in charge of selling merchandise) was killed. I'm not sure if any of my friends knew him. It's all so horrible.

Utterly unrelated, but Poison Girls were great. They bring back a good part of the nineties for me: the older punk friend who played them and Rubella Ballet and other weird things from the Crass label to me in his little flat off the Stratford Road. Have you heard anything by Kukl, Bjork's early band?

I should have guessed you would know them! That's wonderful. I found them sideways, through Fatal Microbes. I am deeply in favor of really political punk music written by middle-aged mothers of two.

I had to remove Autolycus from a pizza box (containing pizza, into which he was trying to infiltrate his little snout). He struggled in disappointment. Shortly afterward he wanted to be conveyed around the apartment in my arms with his paws decorously tucked up underneath him. Hestia wanted to be left alone to nap on the bed without her brother pouncing on her head. I think it was very good for everyone.

I love this. Especially the purring vibrating against your chest that I know you felt while you carried the decorously tucked Autolycus around.
