Yesterday we packed all the books out of my office; today we took down the shelves. The room looks simultaneously cavernous and smaller, full of loud flat echoes, and I am not comfortable in it. Tomorrow we put most of our furniture in storage.

On the other hand, tonight I saw a total lunar eclipse and a 70mm print of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), and that was really nice.

We didn't. derspatchel was not able to find more than part-time minimum-wage work before our money ran out, meaning we were not able to afford to move to a new apartment together—we couldn't afford the move-in costs and we didn't have the income to guarantee monthly rent. He is taking the cats and moving in with a friend, I am taking my books and moving in with my cousins. We have been packing our stuff all weekend and today we start putting it in storage. He had a job interview this morning, but even if it comes through with full-time work, it will be too late for an October 1st move-in. He was out of work for a full year and then only earning very part-time. I could not make enough to support two people and two cats singlehandedly. It is horrible. I wish I could report otherwise!

I admit it would have helped if (a) there were more jobs that paid enough to live on (b) housing prices in our area were not batshit insane.
