We're younger than our parents were

I slept approximately an hour last night. It was a bad time. I dreamed a pair of college-age girls on the subway told me I had to be on Twitter to be a feminist. "What's your feminism?" they'd asked me. I was confused by the question. Like, did I consider myself a third-wave feminist? A fourth-wave? No, they said, it was a hashtag. ("My feminism is . . .") I'm not on Twitter, I explained. But then how could I keep up with the conversation? The discourse was moving so quickly. I was already left behind. "How old do you think I am?" I asked them. "Old enough to be dead!" they chorused, laughing. "Everybody's old enough to be dead," I told them, "that's what being alive means."

I'm not sure my brain should be allowed to philosophize unsupervised.

I am so sorry you only got an hour, but that's kind of an awesome dream-conversation.

Wow. That sounds awful :( *hugs*

It's a great comeback though!

"Everybody's old enough to be dead," I told them, "that's what being alive means."

Well played, your dream self!

I hope you got (significantly!) more sleep last night. :/

Sleep's in short supply all over, these days.

Who's hoarding the sleep?

That's a really good snappy comeback, though!! Weirdly, I too dreamed about teenagers last night, though in my case they were living in my condo, eating all my food, making a mess and buying/putting together IKEA furniture. Also constantly on the computer, but that's just normal, I think.

I have a very distinct memory of noticing that some of the parts came in a series of smooth-sanded but "rustic"-looking wooden boxes and asking one of the teenagers if I could keep those for storage purposes, as a kind of payment for having to deal with their mess. I think they said yes, but then I woke up and was disappointed to find the boxes weren't actually real.

I theorize some brash untrained teen onieromancers were having a rough night after sugar crashing and binge-reading Twitter and their dreams cascaded outward, disturbing everyone's sleep.

I hope good sleep returns soon. It's in short supply over here too.

I was thinking the same thing. I must remember it for the next time someone gets sassy in dreamland.

I can't put a copyright on my dreams.

There's a story right there. (ETA: Come to think of it, it's DWJ's "Carol Oneir's Hundredth Dream.")

I agree--it's an excellent comeback.

That dream seems weirdly plausible. Or maybe I just spend too much time on Twitter.
