Like an altar that was burning
I am killingly tired. Today began with no sleep because our neighbors are remodeling their kitchen and someone owns a bandsaw and tomorrow is going to begin with an early-morning dentist's appointment. Ordinary levels of tooth and jaw pain feel unmanageable already and I can't imagine they'll improve with my braces tightened.
On the other hand, this evening we went to dinner with my mother at Taipei Gourmet and ate an extraordinary amount of soup dumplings and twice-cooked pork; it required lots of careful chewing and I regret nothing. Currently available from TCM is an apparent horror movie called Night Tide (1963) whose teaser summary reads "A sailor falls for a young girl who believes she's a mermaid," so I believe I know what I am watching next, thank you. At least after Gaslight (1940), the British original directed by Thorold Dickinson. I've wanted to see that ever since I knew the 1944 film with Ingrid Bergman was a remake.
But first I am going to sleep. Or at least lie down. It has to be better than staying upright.

Thank you. I did, actually, even if not as long as I would have liked!

The meal sounds delicious, and I'm looking forward to your thoughts on Night Tide (which I'd never heard of but is now tentatively on my spreadsheet on the basis of the summary you quoted).

I will definitely report on it. I'm really curious.
[edit] Done. Curiosity rewarded.

Thank you. I had to get up early, but at least I slept. The rain kept the remodeling away.

I remember it being good! My mother showed it to me in high school. I suspect it's glossier than the original, but it has a claustrophobic, Gothic atmosphere and Bergman is very good, partly because she isn't an especially neurasthenic actress—she doesn't look weak or silly to the audience for not being able to see what her husband is doing, she doesn't look like a pushover. I have good shivery memories of the final scene, as her husband pleads for her help and she plays her madness against him; I wasn't sure if she was going to kill him. It's Angela Lansbury's screen debut, as the insolent housemaid who says almost nothing to Bergman and cuts her eyes at Charles Boyer; she turned eighteen on set.

Thanks. This morning's appointment was much less terrible than it could have been, although I am back on soft foods for the foreseeable future. Night Tide is getting watched either tonight or tomorrow, so expect a review soon!
[edit] This would be it.
