I saw my reflection come right off your face

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nineweaving for pointing me in the direction of this piece: Fernand Khnopff's I lock my door upon myself (1891).

I want to write it a story.

Wow, that's an amazing image.

Thanks for the image. I had to go and look up more and ended up reading about Hypnos and reading Rossetti's poem in the process. A good start to the morning. And of course that moved to the Oedipus and the Sphinx painting, which opened up more depictions of that story. I'll be glad to read what you add to all this.

You've been beaten to the punch (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0865381089/ref=ed_oe_p/104-6711523-0697516?%5Fencoding=UTF8).

Lovely novella, it's been one of my favorites of hers for years.

You could still write your story, and the cognoscenti would know what painting it was, and smile. You got my Samuel Palmer that way.
