We are not worried, it is worse outside, if there is an outside

This went live a few days ago and my life was so chaotic I missed it! Everybody take five (or a little longer) and read Michael Cisco's translation of Julio Cortázar's "Headache" at Tor.com. And then perhaps a lot more by Cortázar. Or Cisco. Or, you know, both.

Oh my god, that is so, so good. Quite chilling in a restrained way. (The McKean illustration is a beauty too.) Thanks for sharing this. Hopefully we'll get a complete translation of this collection soon.

Based on a post at Mr Cisco's blog, it appears there is a translated edition which lacked only this story to be complete. So this bodes less well for a full collection translated by him, which after reading his work with Headache I regret, but at least there is one somewhere?

Thanks for the heads-up! :)

maybe caused by the hot wind that blows every day at dawn, before the rising of a sun that pours down on the house all day like a rain of hot pitch.

An awesome and perfect image. I'm going to enjoy the rest of this story, I think.

...

Whoa. That was unsettling, though.
