I love the film, so I consider it very worth the buying (although I was able, last year, to finagle my parents into getting it for me as a birthday present). You could always rent it first to see what you think. It's not fast-moving, and it's not necessarily easy to decipher at first, but it's one of the stranger and better films I've ever seen.
