And the wild mountain thyme all the moorlands is perfuming

It is the longest day. We spent the shortest night sleepless, but [livejournal.com profile] derspatchel and I are headed north for the memorial celebration for Luis Yglesias. There will be singing and remembrance and summer.

Happy solstice, all.

I hope it was a worthy memorial; he was one of the first teachers I had at Brandeis, and I loved his inability to take himself too seriously. I was not in a state to have been as profoundly influenced by him as you were, and I wish I had been... but I had other wonderful teachers at Brandeis, too. Your previous write-up about him was very moving and quite possibly inspiring.

When were you at Brandeis? What was your major? I graduated in '85, majoring in European Cultural Studies, minoring in Medieval Studies, which boiled down to a lot of Renaissance English drama and medieval history. I was in between English, History, and Comparative Lit, but my heart was mostly in literature, as were even my history papers. It might be fun to compare notes someday.

I'm very glad you discovered your storytelling self lurking around under your mundane self -- an infinitely valuable discovery.
