It is a little-known fact that after Sappho leapt from the White Rock of Leukas, she was transformed into a sea-nymph. Her songs bring women to the sea.



At least, Laurence Koe looks like he thought so.

Phew!

I am happy to know there are more painted versions of Sappho in the world than Mengin's and Alma-Tadema's. That said, I wasn't expecting this one.
