We found you hiding, we found you lying
I re-read my own previous post and misread "postmodern" as "postmortem." Thanks for the editorializing, brain.
cucumberseed gave me a splendid cover of one of my favorite songs by Siouxsie & The Banshees last night, reminding me that I haven't posted a mix of music in ages, either. So, here. Have some covers. Not necessarily the weirdest, the rarest, or the most exhaustive selection on my computer, but I like them and you might as well see if you will, too.
Cake Like, "Love Charm"
(Marc Bolan)
Dead Kennedys, "Back in the U.S.S.R."
(The Beatles)
The Divine Comedy, "I've Been to a Marvellous Party"
(Noël Coward)
Dum Dum Girls, "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out"
(The Smiths)
Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, "First We Take Manhattan"
(Leonard Cohen)
The Everlove, "Cities in Dust"
(Siouxsie & The Banshees)
Hana Piranha, "Yuri-G"
(PJ Harvey)
Lorde, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"
(Tears for Fears)
Jawbox, "Cornflake Girl" (hidden track at 5:01)
(Tori Amos)
Jill Tracy & David J, "Bela Lugosi's Dead (Undead Is Forever)"
(Bauhaus)
June Tabor & Oysterband, "That Was My Veil"
(PJ Harvey)
Peter Mulvey, "The Ocean"
(Dar Williams)
R.E.M., "Academy Fight Club"
(Mission of Burma)
Soap&Skin, "Me and the Devil"
(Robert Johnson)
Tanya Donelly & Dylan in the Movies, "The Lovecats"
(The Cure)
Bonus: songs better known as covers! (Fair warning, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is a jerkass song when sung from a male perspective.)
Gloria Jones, "Tainted Love"
Robert Hazard, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"
Andy Prieboy, "Tomorrow Wendy"
I shall now do something with my afternoon that doesn't involve waiting for files to upload.

We're probably getting there if we aren't already . . .

You're welcome! Hope you like. It was the kind of post where I had to limit myself to an arbitrary number of songs to keep it from turning into a rigorously cross-indexed, comprehensive archive . . .

Have you heard the Bioshock Infinite versions of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"?

You're welcome! I like music; I figure other people might, too.

Yes, but I don't own them! Do you have recordings? I was trying to find a soundtrack last summer, but I don't think it had come out yet. (I also remember a brilliant women's blues of "Tainted Love.")

I love the music to that game. I remember when Everybody came on during the game, it was playing so softly in this burnt out shell of a building while everything blew up and yet I just started hooting like a monkey. It was terribly clever as audio commentary. Enjoy!

THANK YOU AND YOINK.

I've been thinking about why this happens to so many of us, and suspect that our brains recognize words by silhouette and then to a rapid logic-check for "is this plausible in context?" It's faster than sounding the word out syllable by syllable, but can occasionally glitch.

There's a meme about this.

Enjoy!
I need a ruinous icon. . .

That's covered with lichen; it's pretty good.
--now I have three, all thanks to you and Cucumberseed. Love the strings thrumming--an ominous undercurrent--and the drums.
It sounds like the version which is the ash-cloud thundering down, inexorable; it moves slow enough to see it coming, but there's still no way to escape.
What's the third? I only have the original and Everlove.
