Have you heard of the cult of the undead?
My desire to write lengthy posts about several different things is in conflict with my need to remain employed and make all my doctor's appointments this week. The Big E was magnificent, however. I ate a stuffed quahog, pulled some lovely g's on the midway, and learned how to tell the difference between three breeds of sheep. We got back almost exactly twelve hours after we left.
My contributor's copy of Not One of Us #50 was waiting in the mailbox when we got home from grocery shopping this evening. In keeping with its anniversary nature, the theme of this issue is deep time, and I am incredibly happy to be part of it. It opens with a short story by
ashlyme and closes with a poem by
strange_selkie and in between features work from
ajodasso,
handful_ofdust,
domparisien, and many other fine writers who are not on LJ, regulars and new names both. My contribution is the flash piece "And Black Unfathomable Lakes," inspired by a Tumblr post of Gemma's in June. I should have dedicated it to Peter Cushing in his centenary year, but I can do that here. Table of contents and ordering information this way. You should go for it.
lesser_celery has been publishing this magazine out of his house since 1986. I had my first story in NOU #26. Happy hundredth, Peter Cushing, happy fiftieth, NOU. You may look like we do, talk like we do, but you know how it is . . .
derspatchel and I have keys to our new place now.

In that Kingdom is a city;
In that city is a town;
In that town there is a street;
In that street there winds a lane;
In that lane there is a yard;
In that yard there is a house;
In that house there waits a room;
In that room an empty bed;
And on that bed a basket--
A Basket of Sweet Flowers:
Of Flowers, of Flowers;
A Basket of Sweet Flowers.

A Basket of Sweet Flowers.
I don't think I'd ever heard that. It reminds me of Elizabeth Goudge. Thank you.

It is an excellent issue. And both your pieces fit it very well.
Glad you have keys and a huzzah for the midway!

Hee. Thank you!
If you would like to reproduce it on Tumblr, properly credited, I am now good with that. (I remember you asking in June.)
I'm glad John took "Blót." I like that one.
Congrats on the keys!
Keys are good! We went over tonight, but of course it was very dark, on account of most of the rooms not having ceiling fixtures. We're going back tomorrow to pick out a bedroom.
