Things you can bring to a party at your wake

This is about Abbie.

He was diagnosed on Friday morning with pancreatic cancer that has metastasized to his chest. It was visible on the ultrasound. There are no real treatment options, first that we would consider reasonable to put a sixteen-year-old cat through, second that are even known to work against this type of cancer. What we can do is: make the cat comfortable. Rob's house is a cat hospice. He has more details here.

I do not know what happens from here, except that I pet Abbie when he'll let me and hold Rob much the same way. The timeline is unknown. My mother, who cannot come into Rob's house because of the fur, sent a hug for Rob and a pet for Abbie and instructed me to tell him safe travels. Cats voyage; everyone knows that. Everything I said about him still holds true.

Oh no - no, no. I do not have fitting words, so I will send someone else's - a really good English translation of Neruda's Oda al gato, which is full of bits like this:
but the cat
wants only to be cat
and every cat is cat
from whiskers to tail,
from presentiment to living rat,
from the night right up to his golden eyes.
My deep sympathies to you & Rob; I hope Abbie experiences as much joy and comfort as possible in his remaining time, whatever form it takes.
