Back to the Army again, sergeant

A pair of public service announcements:

I will be out of internet communication for most of the weekend, because I am accompanying [livejournal.com profile] derspatchel to his high school reunion in western Massachusetts tomorrow starting at exhaustion o'clock in the morning and I am a little unsure as to how my Sunday is going to work, except that it will involve traveling even earlier.

I will be out of internet communication for an indefinite period after that, because for all practical purposes my laptop is dead. I believe fervently in the resurrection of Bertie Owen, but I don't believe in it any time soon, and it might involve him being a dybbuk in another machine's hardware. This is an actual catastrophe, I am extremely unhappy, please do not offer electronic hugs; I appreciate the sentiment, but I can't do anything with them. It does not help that I was in the middle of the last scene of a new story and about to start a proofreading project I'd enjoy.

I am tired of things breaking.

Ugh, sorry to hear your laptop - that's real-life nightmare territory, right up there with having one's glasses crushed without a backup somewhat-recent prescription pair on hand. Is it the harddrive proper that's given up the ghost?

If your internet access situation improves at some point this month, there's a post up over at [community profile] poetree you might enjoy re: Frequently (Or Not So Frequently) Asked Questions [FONSFAQ] about long and serial poetry. And this anon poll re: Diction's Dicty Delights is likely to be of interest to any logophile.

On the non-internet front, did you know the week-long National Poetry Slam is happening in Boston this year? Time frame is August 13-17, 2013; I'm hoping to organize some local folks to check it out with me. (The Art Amok! poetry slam team from Atlanta, GA is coming (!); I may dip into shameless fangirl territory at seeing them perform live.)
