When the sun goes down and the die is cast
I walked home tonight under flowering trees, including the kind that smell like fish. The sky around the moon in its mirrors of cloud was so blue, it looked like a night scene from a silent film, where the sun is plainly shining on the far side of the trees. I could never tell what time it was in Dreyer's Vampyr (1932), but then again neither could the protagonist.
It was Ludwig Wittgenstein's birthday today. I will rewatch Jarman's film for him as soon as I can retrieve it from its box. Last winter, I wrote a poem about him for my godchild, who as of this afternoon has two legal parents. Mazel tov to them and all the ghosts that hang around their house, difficult and kindly.
I will come back with some more of my art tomorrow.

Mm. I wonder where my nearest hawthorn is. My parents have a rowan in the side yard, but that is not quite the same.
Wittgenstein's a wonderful film. I enjoyed your thoughts.
I just fell in love with it. And also kind of with Wittgenstein. Karl Johnson is like that.

Mazel tov, indeed.
ETA: I liked "Drink Down" very much - it made me go back to Rid Of Me. Forgotten how great that album was; there are days I could almost marry it, if that makes sense.
Thank you! It's the first album of hers I played over and over and over: I heard "To Bring You My Love" first, and I still think I love it best (it scares me), but the entire album doesn't hold the same grip on me. The B-sides on 4-Track Demos are also among my favorites. But in either version, "Yuri-G."
[edit] My God, there's a cover. That didn't exist the last time I checked.

I am surprised but pleased!
