the description and picture remind me of the movie "I Capture the Castle" - starring Bill Nighy and Romola Garai.
I love that film; it was part of the summer I discovered Bill Nighy. I rewatched it a few months ago and it was still wonderful.
Cold Comfort Farm
is significantly snarkier, but I think you will like it nonetheless.
By the way... French director Francois Ozon now calls Garai his muse.
Oh, excellent. I'm glad someone does.
She starred in his film "Angel" - about a young eccentric British writer in the early 20th century. Highly recommended...
