nineweaving, I have been sorted: Which Diana Wynne Jones Character Are You? (It does not provide results in a postable fashion, alas. But it's very entertaining.) My first answer was Claudia from Year of the Griffin, which was unfortunately meaningless to me—that's one of two Diana Wynne Jones books I haven't read. So I changed one answer to something that wasn't too far off anyway, and calculations were made and profiles evaluated; and when the screen cleared, it informed me that I was either Millie / The Living Goddess from The Lives of Christopher Chant or Sempitern Walker from A Tale of Time City.
Between all the cats in the Temple of Asheth and the enchantress powers, I'm all right with Millie; although I deplore her tastes in popular literature.* But I am absurdly, shamelessly flattered by the comparison to Sempitern Walker. Although anybody who expects to see me screaming around the Hall of Graduate Studies in a pair of green underpants half an hour before my comprehensive exams is going to be sorely disappointed.
Though it might make me feel a lot better . . .
*Yes, I'm re-reading Mary Stewart's Airs Above the Ground right now. Yes, it's a romantic thriller; yes, all her heroines are essentially interchangeable; and yes, most of them are idiots. But at least it hasn't got British schoolgirls in it, all right?
