Whatever she was in the last year—the song's from her latest album Before the Poison (2004; I bought it because most of the songs were written by PJ Harvey and Nick Cave). I'm told her voice is almost unrecognizable now, but I've never heard her any other way.

And totally unrelated: you mentioned speaking at a panel on "Women writing gay men" a while back. Have you ever read any Lynn Flewelling? (No particular reason why you would have, but I thought she did it rather well in her fantasy novels)
