Later on, in the epilogue, they found him

This is another one of those placeholder posts. It's been that sort of day.

Last night [livejournal.com profile] lesser_celery showed me the first three episodes of Millennium (1996–99). I have been warned that we haven't even gotten to the really spectacular strangeness, but at this point I love it near unconditionally—the first episode is a beautiful little film that just happens to fit inside fifty minutes and if neither of the next two have been nearly as tight or as deeply reaching, they still remain some of the soundest hit-the-ground-running I've seen from a television show. I told [livejournal.com profile] strange_selkie, when she asked what I thought of the show so far: "It's like fiction by [livejournal.com profile] greygirlbeast or [livejournal.com profile] handful_ofdust, only filmed and starring Lance Henriksen. Prrrrrt." I stand by that statement.

And now I have to catch a bus, to meet [livejournal.com profile] rushthatspeaks at South Station. There may be a more thoughtful post on this subject later. I may also be distracted.

I loved Millennium! Awesome show!

One of my faves.

The only significant failure of the show was that it ended. It has been a while, but I remember reveling in the consistently dark and grim tone.

And ever-darker and grimmer as it goes on, too! This morning, I was thinking about the end of Season Two, in all its world-rocking, wad-shooting glory. They were so certain they were going to be cancelled, and everything in Season Three--which I actually love unreservedly--comes from then having to deal with the fallout of their personal apocalypse not being the literal end of the world. It's like the show's whole thesis made flesh/video.

Such a very good point. They wreaked havoc on their own show, intentionally bringing about the end of the world, and then they had to find a way to survive.

The third season now strikes me as a kind of prelude to Fringe, in a twisted parallel universe sort of way.

I'm delighted you're enjoying Millennium. I hope you continue to take pleasure from it.

I also hope you and [livejournal.com profile] rushthatspeaks have had/are having a lovely time.

This. All of it -- and so many more. Gotta show lots of love for "Anamnesis"! Which is like someone made a good version of The DaVinci Code years before. And the utter madness of "...Thirteen Years Later". And the S2 finale. And -- there is just too much greatness in this show to summarise.

Always glad to see more people getting into that show!

*not using Millennium icon b/c spoilery*

Oh, all right: here it is. It's not *too* spoilery.

I rewatched the first four eps a couple of weeks ago (having rewatched the entire series but not in the strictest order whem I bought the DVDs a while back) and just keep finding new things I love about it. (Like John Hawkes's guest role! Made much cooler by what he's gone on to do.) Should continue with a complete rewatch in episode order (no skipping ahead to my favourites)...
