I got beat up in that alley

So first Livejournal was under political attack, and then my internet access was (non-politically) tarfu from sometime last night until about half an hour ago, and this morning I had to see a dentist on an emergency basis. If you want content, have the posts I made during the LJ freeze. I am mostly going to bed.

I will, however, endeavor to be awake enough tomorrow to write up Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), which I managed nonetheless to see with my brother tonight; it was as terrific as I had hoped from its trailer, and in some surprising ways. I don't usually want sequels to movies, but I found myself faintly sorry this one wasn't about to be followed by anything but The Avengers—it's got that good a cast and set-up. It really is rare that I like protagonists, especially of things like summer blockbusters.

I enjoyed it too. It was really good mythology, and yeah, I liked the protagonist a lot. It got rushed a little around the third act, but what can you do?

What does tarfu mean? I'm guessing it's like SNAFU and FUBAR. Tarfu sounds like someone's name, or a bad brand of tofu or a rare mushroom.

Dear Lord. Universe, please stop beating on sovay.

I'm sorry for your need of the dentist, and hope you're feeling better now.

I'm delighted that you enjoyed the film--I'm looking forward to seeing your write-up. I'm also thinking this maybe means I should see it myself.

I'll admit to being a sucker for superhero movies of all stripes, but I was surprised by how much I liked "Captain America". I think a lot of it was due to Chris Evans, whom I wasn't expecting to like as much as I did. But the rest of the cast was terrific, too. I think I'll have to see this one again, when it hits the discount cinema.
