Life is skittles and life is beer

It snowed this afternoon. There are little drifts everywhere.

This is a silly climate.

(Zen Cho's "起狮,行礼 (Rising Lion—The Lion Bows)," however, is a terrific story.)

Well, here it was 68°F at 9:00 p.m. And at dinner, my daughter (home on spring break) noted that, it being the day that it was, we should go out and poison some pigeons. It's good to know that we've raised her right!

This is a silly climate.

On Friday I went out to the suburbs to see my old high school best friend for the first time in half a dozen years (he was in town visiting his Mom). I told him "it was fated that the next time we would meet, I would turn off the air conditioner in my car and step out into snow." Which is exactly what I had just done. I think that went beyond silly towards the surreal.

It was 70 out that day, the car had been sitting in the sun, and I tend to use the A/C in borderline conditions anyway. In fact, I did turn it on and off a couple of times during the last half of the drive, but it was on when I pulled into their driveway -- which had a small surviving patch of snow a few paces to the left of where I stopped the car. I did go out of my way to step in it -- I couldn't resist. Seventy-degree days with snow still on the ground are to be toyed with!

Has it endured? There was snow in the morning here, but it's gone, now.

We have only the tenacious remains of once-mighty piles.

Oh, that story is wonderful.

I saw that story this morning and made a mental note that I want to come back to it--it looks *excellent*. I'm glad to see from your comment here that it is, in fact, excellent.

It is a silly climate. We had snow Monday morning, enough to respectably cover the ground. There's talk of as much as six inches tomorrow or the next day. I gather that if they cancel school my class will be postponed till next week, even if the roads are clear by evening. I'm not wild about leaving students alone for two weeks right at the beginning of a language class--I'd send them something to read if they were more advanced, but they're not. Oh well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
