The name Ruth Park meant nothing to me, until I saw that she had written Playing Beatie Bow (1980). I had already heard about Dick King-Smith.

Anyone else I read before the age of eleven dies this month, I fire it.

I love Playing Beatie Bow. I tried a couple of her other books, but they were much more ordinary.
