Mais chanter n'est pas commode

Goodbye, Hugues Cuénod. I knew you only as the four tenor character parts in Richard Bonynge's 1971 Les contes d'Hoffmann, but you were so marvelous there, I was glad to know you were still in the world. On the other hand, you were a hundred and eight.

(Off to find a recording of the premiere of The Rake's Progress. And then I shall hear Frank Kelley in your role in the spring.)

"...specific gifts of bizarre characterisation...."

You might have written him, with his delicate eccentricities and silverpoint voice.

I love that he entered into a civil union (is there no verb?) with his partner at a hundred and four.

Nine

That's awesome!

His memory for a blessing.

So, another fascinating person whom I've only heard of because of you. May he rest in peace.
Thank you.
