I assume everyone on the planet has already been horrified by this, but I'm behind the times; I just opened up the Globe to look for some non-arts news and read:

Their [American Muslims'] goal is not only to protect Muslims, but also to prevent them from retaliating if provoked. One protest scheduled for this Saturday in New York against the proposed mosque near ground zero is expected to feature Geert Wilders, the aggressively anti-Islam Dutch lawmaker. The same day in Gainesville, Fla., the Dove World Outreach Center plans to burn copies of the Koran.

Leaving aside the rest of the article, which seems to be about the less blatantly fascist and equally problematic need for American Muslims to prove their loyalty and innocence to the rest of America—Dove World Outreach Center? You fail Christianity forever.

If I squint so much that I get a headache, I can nearly see how they got to "Dove" associatively--symbol of peace, coupled with the latent "I bring not peace but a sword"--but ach. And agreed on the final parenthetical, alas, though I had to look up its attribution....

I read the comments. They are better than normal, so I got through about a dozen of them before my eyes bled. Our more reactionary elements are starting to realize the encroaching age of most of their members, the slow trickle away from doctrine, and this makes them so angry, and so dangerous. I wish a gentle end to these ideas that poison us. Gentle and soon.
