One foot in ice and one in fire

The glacier under which Loki lies bound is Vatnajökull, the lake-glacier. This is not the glacier whose recent volcanic eruption has closed airspace in much of northern Europe on account of the fallout ash turns to glass in jet engines. But given the massive international chaos Eyjafjallajökull is generating, what do you bet Loptr takes credit for it anyway?

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get it under control. I trust you are not in too much distress.”

Nine

If I hadn't already known it, I could've guessed that the captain was British just by the concluding sentence in his announcement. :)

I love my country-folk sometimes.

I'd never make a bet on anything to do with Loki, but he's bound to be taking credit for it, I reckon.

Now I am in Ireland
Now I am at a third remove.

Not one of Hopkins's most hiberno-friendly lines, but my flight back to Bristol's due to leave tomorrow. Fingers crossed...

Hermes has re-booked me onto a Monday morning ferry to Holyhead...

I expect they're all connected somewhere down there in the fire and ice.

And now I understand global warming.

Loki is being anything but low-key ... *snerk*

I shall have to check Gods back out of the library and pick up where I left off. Gaiman is still a relatively new presence in my world.

So many books. So little time.

Norse stuff is difficult to get a handle on, frankly, both in a literary and a ritual sense. I feel a bit sorry for my Asatru friends who must placate these weird, tempermental gods ...

Which leads to a question on ancient myth and ritual that I've been worrying at so far without result. Perhaps you can help? I shall e-mail it to you privately via LJ ...

I went to a reading when it first came out and the whole audience began chuckling knowingly at that point.

It's what I'd do.
zdenka: Miriam with a tambourine, text "I will sing." (setting things on fire)

I have nothing useful to say, but I have an icon.

Dad fears that when I return, it will be to an England turned into Pompeii with my family preserved in their mundane daily acts.

Ash turning to glass in plane engines is certainly poetic.

And freaky. Yikes.

[identity profile] janni.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I blame the fire giants myself, but it wouldn't be the first time Loki's in league with giants.

I bet there are underground fireways through which he could get word from Vatnajökull to Eyjafjallajökull ...

And all that ash in the air so much chatter.
