An hour into Les enfants du Paradis (1945), I am in awe of Jean-Louis Barrault. Some kind of details to follow next week when Viking Zen and I have finished the film; or I will simply have moved to being in awe of everyone involved, which is an equal possibility.

It is one of my favourite films. And although Barrault is wonderful, I do think of it as an ensemblepiece - so many great performances, such a beautiful script, such a magical depiction of Paris...

It is very much an ensemble film; I was just blown away by his introductory mime.
