And the wild dogs in the mountains to the north of us come down
There were coyotes yipping and howling somewhere outside the house last night. Not dogs; or at least I have never heard a dog make that thin, almost whinnying keen before. I will be curious to hear if they return tonight. I expect I will still be awake.
From the sublime to the sugar-laden: for Thanksgiving, Burdick's is selling little chocolate turkeys with sliced almond tails. The dark ones are filled with clementine ganache, the milk with pecan, bourbon, and chestnut. I framed this one in its natural habitat, which was apparently on top of Georgette Heyer's The Toll-Gate (1954). It did not survive long. Fortunately, I memorialized it first.

Most of today was spent with
gaudior and
rushthatspeaks and an absolutely ridiculous recipe for Baileys brownies which I believe originated with
tamnonlinear. My blood sugar might not forgive me until the end of the week, but I was impressed. And the conversation was even better.
I should know more obscene Greek verbs.

Agreed. That definitely sounds like coyote. They're not uncommon in these parts--I'd say that, while I don't hear them every night (and I've never noticed a pattern as to which nights they're vocal and which nights they're not) I do hear them pretty frequently, and every so often I see them crossing the road, looking like skinny grey German shepherds but moving with a purposefulness that's most undoggy.
I will be curious to hear if they return tonight. I expect I will still be awake.
I hope you find some sleep tonight, but I am curious to hear if you might hear them again tonight.
The turkey looks very cute, and, more importantly, sounds delicious. Thank you for preserving a photograph of this obviously endangered species.
Glad you had both impressive brownies and conversation which surpassed even them. I wish you many more.

You know more of them than I do. That said, I hope you can learn some more soon.

And growing rarer by the day . . .

As a general rule I'm sympathetic to endangered species and their survival, but in this case my only regret is that I can only vicariously participate in the act of driving them into extinction.

I envy you hearing the coyotes. They're all around here, but I've never heard them calling.

I didn't think we had any in this area. I am glad to have them.

It was this recipe with Baileys substituted for the crème de menthe. And although I had to leave before the frosting and ganache stages, the brownies all on their own were demented and delicious. So, thank you.

It was pretty nice!

There's a reservoir behind the house where Canada geese and swans lay over on their migratory flights; I suspect it is no longer quite as inhabited as it was two nights ago.

Whichever of the latter two is the least trouble?
Thank you.

Presentation is very important in cases like these!
