And in the tropical air, the scent rose like a spirit

Today I ate rambutans, made up a blueberry cake, roasted Cornish hens with figs, thyme, and lemon, and helped bake vegan brownies. Walked along Mass. Ave. and bought herbal chai. Did some research in a dead language. There were all sorts of other things wrong with today, but the food and the turning cold of the air were not any of them.

If you are not already aware of the Delirium Fruit Swap, you should be. And you should be sending poems. The project looks to be awesome; and with any luck, it will generate more hats.

Last Drink Bird Head. I won't be at World Fantasy, but I have a flash in the anthology. More to the point, so do many truly excellent authors—Caitlín R. Kiernan, Liz Williams, Michael Swanwick, Tanith Lee, Gene Wolfe, Sarah Monette . . . Rikki Ducornet went to college with my mother. (Her senior project—a line-drawn deck of Tarot cards—was one of the four things that my mother regrets never being able to own.) That may be even more surreal than the title of the book.

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] hans_the_bold!

That anthology looks superb in every respect! (Not least the cover art and interior illustration)

Cornish hens with figs, thyme, and lemon sounds lovely. I would like someone to cook me figs!

I would love to have the recipe, and my family would thank you. So yes, please, when you get a chance.

As for buying the anthology, I would very much like to, both for pleasure and for the good cause... but my resources are much curtailed these days, so I have to plan carefully and slot a purchase in at the right time...

I'm sorry that anything at all was wrong with today for you, but I'm glad for the things which weren't--the food sounds splendid.

Congratulations on the publication of your flash--the anthology looks brilliant.

Somone I knew glancingly died this week. I did not attend the funeral; we had friends in common, but I had met him only a handful of times, six or seven years ago. It still felt strange. He was my age.

Yes, that's a strange feeling. I'm sorry.

Thank you!

You're welcome!

—a line-drawn deck of Tarot cards—

O my!

Magnificent food, Akkadian, an edge of frost—what's not to like?

Looks like a terrific anthology.

Nine

Agreed on the food and the anthology: both sound incredibly cool, although I had to remind myself what a rambutan was.

Was it actually Akkadian, or the Manuscript you're working on?

I thought the other was a sekrit projekt too? Anyway, feel free to delete these comments...

I'll have to snuffle around in our resources and see if we can bring you down here. When are you available? Or would you rather come post-daughter?

And you know, we do need an au pair...

Everyone always needs an au pair. ;)
Good luck!

I was telling my sister recently that when you describe your days, they always seem so rich and full. I think it's the attention to details. My morning was just flavored with Cornish hens, blueberry cakes, figs, and thyme, and the waking chill of air.

Thanks!

And researching dead languages is always cool.

Well, glad (some) things are good!
