I dreamed I was at university in Russia, partly involved in a play whose title was The Holly and the Ivy, and the student with the yew tree throwing roots down around the frame of his bed was a pre-Christian Loki. For the first day of class, I was asked to write "a science-fiction essay." I guess it's autumn.

I don't think he did, actually. He dressed more like the late '30's or the early 1940's—not this retro-geek chic, but genuinely like someone out of a newsreel, only casually and in color. Oddly, I don't believe he was redheaded, as every Loki I have consciously written is. I remember him fairish, but not strikingly so. He could fold up into an incredible apologetic smile that guaranteed absolutely nothing.
