For the wind is fair and the tide's at the spring
Yesterday
fleurdelis28 and I went to Salem. Today we drove up to Portland and spent all afternoon at Two Lights State Park. None of the directions we were trying to follow precisely worked, but it didn't matter. I sat on sea-ledges until I forgot what time it was; I took off my shoes and the tide rushed into my lap. Seaweed, barnacles, fingernail mussels shining blue-black. The haze blew off and those faintly traced celadon clouds built up over the water, like reverse painting on glass. We had dinner at the extraordinary Street & Co., which we found by stopping a random passerby and asking for her recommendations on non-fried seafood; I found no pearls in my fisherman's stew, but the poached peaches for dessert probably made up for it. An ordinary-looking wine and kitchenware store turned out to sell bars of chocolate made with cinnamon, coconut, and ylang-ylang. I am now listening to the New Sadler's Wells Opera's Ruddigore (1987) and not quite winding down. Photographs were taken; of their quality I have no idea, but I will probably inflict some of them on you regardless. I am feeling a lot better than I was even this morning.

My life needs more ocean. It's good for me.

I think you have just inspired me to make a seafood chowder-mix-stew for the meal-of-kai-moana this week.

Oh, fantastic. There was heat lightning playing around Boston as we drove back at night, but neither thunder nor rainbows!

I am glad to be of service. Also, that sounds delicious.

And what a perfect day. A lap full of sea.

I don't think it can get any better than that (though the chocolate ... well, mmm). Glad you had a lovely day :)

Made by someone called Jade Chocolates, who I'd never heard of before. I'm very curious about their other flavors now; I hope I can find them around here.
Glad you had a lovely day
It made me happy!

The chocolate sounds fascinating. Well, so does all the rest of it, but anyhow...
Especially glad to hear the last line.

In compensation, the cold I have been warding off for the last week pounced and I feel like someone used my throat to juice lemons. But non-physically, I am better.

Sorry to hear, and I hope your throat's better soon.
But non-physically, I am better.
This is excellent, and I hope it continues to be the case.

Oh I say! New Sadler's Wells! I thought Sir Roderic was particularly good in that one. They all were, really. I ought to get that out again and listen to it as well. And they have the rarely-heard alternate patter song, IIRC: "For thirty-five years, I've been sober and wary..."

I should do things like it more often.

Yes; he has a voice like old dust and oil paint. I am particularly taken with the production's Despard and Margaret (Harold Innocent and Linda Ormiston). He sounds so ineffably jaded; she, romantically unhinged. Their post-reformation duet is brilliant.

It does indeed.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Peabody Essex Museum. Foodwise, we ate last at Capt's, but I have also been told to try Finz. This is from consulting my brother's fiancée, who grew up in Swampscott; I could ask if she has other recommendations.
