I was trying to find a way of stopping the clock

My poem "Fjöturlundr (Saturnian)" has been accepted by [livejournal.com profile] ericmarin for the April issue of Lone Star Stories. It is mostly about the days of the week; also, Ragnarök. Probably I cannot blame [livejournal.com profile] fleurdelis28 for all of that.

Speaking of time, I suspect I should have mentioned before today that I will be attending this year's ICFA; I will be in Orlando from the 17th to the 22nd, and I have no idea what my online presence will be like. Last year indicates nonexistent, but maybe I will at least get some writing done. Anyone else going to be there? That I don't already know about?

I really hope someone has set the suitably anonymous Mr. Anderson's "Mummering at Christmas" to music, because I discovered it while looking for Simani's "Any Mummers Allowed In?" and it's awesome.

I photographed swans today.

Can you stop by here on the way back up for my birthday?

I'm seeing Psholtii.

Also: congratulations! It's a fine fine poem.

[livejournal.com profile] sovay--this is one of those glitches with userpics that Livejournal talks about. It will go away, but not consistently--sometimes the wrong image will keep on appearing. When this happened to me (it's happened a couple of times with a couple of userpics), I deleted the userpic and then re-uploaded it with a slightly different title--and that solved the problem for good (touch wood).

(I, unfortunately, am seeing the 18th-cent painting)

I haven't the faintest idea. I hate it. I have one friend who has a lovely userpic, an animated gif, of the surf washing over her name. Half the time, though, instead she's got a distorted photo of a person's face as a userpic. The worst case I ever saw was when my friend [livejournal.com profile] tritoneclarinet's image of a blue forest landscape was replaced with an image of a handgun :-(

I wish I could figure out a way (or better yet, I wish Livejournal could figure out a way) to prevent this from happening.

Psholtii's back!

yup--now I see the proper image.

[identity profile] ap-aelfwine.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Assuming that I'm correct about who Psholtii is, I see him. I certainly don't see a painted city.

[identity profile] ap-aelfwine.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
FWIW, I'm seeing a bit of painted eighteenth-century-esque city as well, although the tag when I settle my arrow on it reads "Psholtii: in a bad mood."

I wish I knew what was the deal.

[identity profile] ap-aelfwine.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
So it's not my computer. Great. And the icon I would traditionally place here to signify my displeasure currently looks like a city.

Zut. Well, you've my sympathy.

I'm hoping [livejournal.com profile] asakiyume's suggestion above will help you. *knocks wood*

I have Psholtii, too. At least your LJ is expressing itself properly to ME.

[identity profile] ap-aelfwine.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations!

That's an awesome poem, and I'm glad it's appreciated properly.

Thank you!

You're welcome!

I'd have to think so. Looking at it, I'm almost given to think it was meant as a song in the first place. With a bit of reflection, I suspect I could probably find an air to put it to, myself.

[identity profile] ap-aelfwine.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
The way it's rhymed and written, it would be a waste if it weren't.

For certain and for sure.

Maybe it's somewhere in the Newfoundland folk tradition; I just couldn't find much attestation for it online.

I've a couple of books of Newfoundland songs. I'll have a look through them. I've a friend up there as well--I might ask her, an I think about it, although she's busy lately, between writing sf/f pron and having a baby on the way.

Congratulations on the acceptance!

I am so glad that Eric Marin, bless his speedy slush-reading ways, likes that poem as much as I do.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I actually just went and did that!

He did give me encouragement on one poem recently--the one I called "Temptation"--but so far, as with Goblin Fruit, I still haven't made a poem that's quite right for him. Practice makes perfect, though :-)

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
Still sitting here! This weekend I meant to send it out, but I somehow didn't manage to. Today though.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, sent it elsewhere for a first try (just this morning), but if/when I get a no-go at the first place, then perhaps. Not sure it's quite his flavor, though? But it wouldn't hurt to try!

Congratulations on the acceptance! I'm looking forward to reading the poem (with my Eight Days of Luke hat on, but also of course my [livejournal.com profile] sovay-fan fedora).

I've always wanted to go to ICFA - have fun!! and congratulations on the poem acceptance. I look forward to reading it! ^_^

Last year, on the other hand, you came back with some excellent pictures, so I wouldn't stress abt. getting online.

[identity profile] ombriel.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be at ICFA!
