time_shark tagged me for that happiness meme last night, so it's lucky for him I can report that my poem "Amal and the Night Visitors" (written, of course, for
tithenai) has been accepted by
Goblin Fruit and "The Road to Volodny (Partisan Song)" will appear in
Not One of Us' upcoming one-off,
(Going Going) GONE, because otherwise my announcement for New Year's Eve is that my laptop—at barely a year and a half—has died. May it be my scapegoat for the last rags of 2008 and may all the bad luck that might have clung around the new year go with it, or this whole out-with-the-old is going to be a little too ironic to drink to. At least it's snowing. Happy New Year, all.

I'm sorry to hear about your laptop. That sucks massively.
Happy New Year!

I am sorry. Did you have backups?

I did not name it. It was in my backpack at a friend's house and as best as we can determine, someone stumbled over or kicked it and dented in the case quite badly; it was only a matter of time before the hard drive died, but I was really hoping to have gotten more backups off it than I did. Most of the writing (except, of course, for the very new story) is probably safe, but music, photographs, etc. are very much endangered. Sadly for the meme, I am not even close to happy. Thanks.

I was just thinking I should suggest a hard drive enclosure, at least for the sake of saving your data, but if the HD died that, obviously, won't work.

Fingers crossed for you. Sometimes the pros can salvage data.
