Someday, someday, someday, someday
Vermillion Lies. The Builders and the Butchers. The Danger Ensemble. Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band. Amanda Fucking Palmer. At this rate, all the T-shirts I own are going to be for bands or operas. Did I mention it was an awesome show?
(The madness continues. Tomorrow, Ben Parzybok and Kelly Link at Pandemonium Books & Games. Probably without quite so much street theatre, partial nudity, hymn-singing, and umbrellas, but you never know.)
Well, it was.

They seem to be sisters from Toronto, redheaded singer-musicians who between them played guitar, melodeon, slide whistle, handbells, found percussion, and puppet; their songs were a mix of off-kilter cabaret ("Global Warming," "The Astronomer") and genuinely spooky, swampy murder ballads ("Long Red Hair", "She Comes"). I liked them very much.
Vermillion Lies
Oh noes haircut!!!
The sisters lay there
Blood poured from the ends of their hair
Now they both looked fair
In fact that's the only thing that they shared
Except that they both had white hair
Now to check out those cabaret tunes...
The Astronomer!
I think I'll make it my theme song for tonight.
mmmm, better than alcohol on a day like today.
Okay, one more song to go....

It's insanely catchy. They warned us about "Global Warming," but "The Astronomer" is the one I went home determined to locate and exorcise. And instead it's still in my head.
LOL, global warming :D
everything's going swimmingly.
Thanks for the intro to these guys--they're fantastic.

You're welcome. Here's one they didn't play at the Paradise: "Bone Yard." Of the songs I hadn't heard live, it's my favorite.

This is--this is an amazing song.
This song brought tears to my eyes, but that's not unusual--it also made me shiver, and that's rarer.
You'll never fill me no matter how hard you try
You'll just get lost inside
....
I might just have to buy that CD. I mean. I want to pay tribute to these guys....
