Now I'm telling my troubles to strangers

I have been sucked into the vortex of Readercon programming. [livejournal.com profile] ericmvan is a gateway drug.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] nineweaving, for whom the moon, the sun, and the stars are not enough!

After dinner at Mary Chung's, I asked my fortune cookie if I would ever actually write a novel. Its response? "It's not the end yet. Let's stay with it." That may be the most coherent reply I have ever gotten from a piece of pastry.

And since it is snowing, and bitterly cold, and I am too tired to do anything else interesting: this is a meme I think I first spotted on [livejournal.com profile] angevin2's journal, made note of, and then promptly forgot to try out. Fortunately, I never throw anything away.

Go to your music player of choice and put it on shuffle. Say the following questions aloud, and press play. Use the song title as the answer to the question. NO CHEATING.

What does next year have in store for me?
Irene Zoosman, "Kadsheinu"
(I'm going to frum out.)

What does your love life look like?
Jody Stecher, "The Lowlands of Holland"
(. . . after my lover drowns.)

What do I say when life gets hard?
The Scarlet Pimpernel, "Marguerite's Dilemma"
(It's hard to say anything while surrounded by people I can't trust.)

What do I think when I get up in the morning?
Turandot, "Diecimila anni al nostro Imperatore!"
("Ten thousand years to our emperor!")

What song will I dance to at my wedding?
Golem!, "Warsaw Is Khelm."
(I'm going to marry a shlemiel.)

What do you want as a career?
Suzanne Vega, "Wooden Horse (Caspar Hauser's Song)"
(I want to be a rider like my father.)

Your favorite saying?
Dead Can Dance, "In the Wake of Adversity"
("They don't understand / Their narrow ways defeat them where they stand.")

Favorite place?
Eileen McGann, "The Dancers of Stanton Drew"
(A stone circle. Or hell.)

What do you think of your parents?
Machine Gun Fellatio, "Summer"
(I think I don't talk to them about my private life much . . .)

Where would you go on a first date?
Serge Gainsbourg, "Melody"
(A peculiar hotel.)

Drug of choice?
The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, "Finnegan's Wake"
(Whiskey!)

Describe yourself:
Peter Pears, "Not All My Torments"
(What does it sound like? Pass the whiskey!)

What is the thing I like doing most?
Proteus 7, "007 Theme"
(My day job as a spy.)

The song that best describes the president?
The Devil's Interval, "Bonfire Carol"
(Penny for the guy!)

What is my state of mind like at the moment?
George Winston, "Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head"
(Either hoping for a close personal relationship with divinity or writing godslash.)

How will I die?
Baby Gramps, "Old Man of the Sea"
(A surfeit of sirens. Score.)

What's your deepest, darkest secret?
The Limeliters, "Until We Get It Right"
(I suck at reincarnation.)

What am I doing right now?
Sweeney Todd, "Wait"
(Look, everyone does it, and seldom as well . . .)

Okay. 'Night.

Aw. That's lovely and it makes me cry. Quite happily.

That's actually rather nice about the fortune cookie. I hope you've got plenty of diversions whilst staying inside from the cold and snow. (We only had a bit of snow here this morning, and then some rainy sleety stuff later in the day.)

Interesting meme. If only I weren't oldfashioned and keeping most of my stuff still on CD only, I'd try it myself.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] nineweaving!
