This is the story of the road that goes to my house and what ghosts there do remain

After a couple of unschedulable weeks, [livejournal.com profile] gaudior, [livejournal.com profile] nineweaving, [livejournal.com profile] captainbutler, [livejournal.com profile] ericmvan, and myself finally organized enough to watch Bergman's Fanny and Alexander (1982) on Monday. The original four-part, 312-minute television version, not the three-hour theatrical release it was later abbreviated into. It was magnificent. (There will be a fuller post at some point, just so I can get some of the story out of my head.) Since then, I have been translating, and therefore somewhat uninteresting to talk to. On the other hand, it makes me happy . . .

I love that song.

That is true. But I'm enjoying jealousy for the moment.

You are always interesting to talk to. Even if I do far too little of it . . .

Ooh, do post, I've been wanting to see that movie.

If you (and others) want, I can take it out again. I wouldn't mind rewatching, not at all. It's so rich.

That would be wonderful. I hear such things about it.

Fanny & Alexander is one of my top ten favorite movies EVER. Really. You know, it's been so long since I saw it (I think the last time was in about 1983) that I can't remember specifically what it was about it that I liked so much, though certain characters and scenes are still strong in my mind. But I have this idea that it was hugely influential on my creativity at the time (or am I confusing this with The Crystal Cave? hmmmmm)

I can remember the *tune* of the Swedish Christmas song in it.

Ah, but wait till you see the long version! Most of what was cut was fantastical: the playhouse, dreams, tales, ghosts.
